St Paul’s Bankstown Anglican Redevelopment

中文

A new chapter for our church

St Paul’s Anglican Church Bankstown is entering an exciting new chapter.

From November 2026, our three congregations will temporarily meet at Bankstown Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1 Allum Street, while our current site at 461 Chapel Road is redeveloped.

While our buildings and meeting location are changing, we are still the same church, with the same mission: to grow healthy gospel-motivated congregations of all ages and nations multiplying disciples and disciple-makers in our city, region, and the world.

FAQs

Why are we moving?

Our current church buildings are ageing and we have an opportunity to redevelop the site in a way that benefits both our church and the wider Bankstown community.

The site is located within the NSW Government’s Bankstown Transport Oriented Development (TOD) zone.

The redevelopment will deliver:

  • 185 social and affordable housing units, with 100% of the housing yield dedicated to social and affordable housing
  • Housing aimed at essential workers, seniors and women over 55
  • Commercial and retail space
  • A preschool
  • New, contemporary and fit-for-purpose ministry facilities for St Paul’s, which will also be available for community use outside of service times
  • One family-sized apartment for the church’s Senior Minister and his family

The project has also received partial funding through the Federal Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund.

This redevelopment will provide significant benefits for the wider community while helping ensure the viability of St Paul’s congregation for generations to come.

We’re not leaving Bankstown. We’re investing in our future here.

The move to a temporary location is an important step towards a new home for St Paul’s — one that is better equipped to serve our church and our community for many years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is St Paul’s leaving 461 Chapel Road?

Our existing church buildings are ageing, run-down and no longer fit for purpose.

The redevelopment gives us an opportunity to replace these facilities while also delivering significant benefits to the wider Bankstown community, including social and affordable housing, commercial and retail space, a preschool and new facilities for St Paul’s.

Are we leaving Bankstown?

No.

Bankstown remains our home and our focus.

Our new temporary meeting location is within Bankstown, and the redevelopment will ultimately provide a new permanent home for St Paul’s at our existing site.

We’re not leaving Bankstown. We’re investing in our future here.

Why are we meeting at a different location?

With our current site unavailable during redevelopment, we need to find a suitable space where our congregations can continue meeting.

Rather than closing or significantly reducing our Sunday gatherings, we have secured a local church venue that allows all three of our congregations to continue meeting during this period.

Where will our congregations meet?

All three congregations (8am, C@10 and 2pm Mandarin) will meet at Bankstown Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1 Allum Street, Bankstown.

When will we start meeting at the new location?

Our congregations will begin meeting at our new temporary location from 15 November 2026.

How long will we be meeting at this temporary location?

We currently expect the redevelopment process to take approximately 2.5 years.

This location is temporary while our new facilities are being developed at 461 Chapel Road.

What will happen to the current church site?

The existing church buildings will be redeveloped as part of a larger project that will include:

  • 185 social and affordable housing units
  • Commercial and retail space
  • A preschool
  • New ministry facilities for St Paul’s
  • Facilities that can also be used by the wider community outside of church service times

The redevelopment is designed to provide significant community benefits while creating a sustainable future for St Paul’s.

What will the new St Paul’s facilities be like?

The redevelopment will provide contemporary, fit-for-purpose ministry facilities for St Paul’s.

These facilities will be designed not only for our regular church gatherings, but also to provide spaces that can be used by the wider community outside of service times.

More details about the future facilities will be shared as the redevelopment progresses.

What will happen with kids ministry at C@10?

We know this is an important question for many families.

There will be spaces at our new location that will allow us to continue providing kids ministry and youth Bible study programs.

We are still working through the practical arrangements, including exactly how these programs will operate at the new venue.

More details will be provided before we move.

What are the parking arrangements?

Parking arrangements are currently being confirmed.

We will provide clear information about available parking, accessibility and the best way to get to the venue before the move.

Will the new location feel different?

Yes, the venue will look and feel different from 461 Chapel Road — but the most important things will remain the same.

You'll still find the same church family, the same Bible-centred teaching, the same opportunity to worship God together, and the same desire to welcome people regardless of their background or faith.

The building is changing. Our mission isn't.

Will any service times change?

At this stage, the regular service times remain:

  • 8am — 8am Service
  • 10am — C@10
  • 2pm — Mandarin Service

Will serving change?

No.

There will still be plenty of opportunities to serve across our congregations and ministries.

In fact, moving to a temporary venue will create new opportunities for people to help us welcome visitors, set up and pack down, support kids ministry and serve our congregations.

Will community groups change?

No.

Our mid-week community groups will continue as usual throughout the week.

Will pastoral care change?

No.

Our pastoral care and support for members of our church family will continue throughout the move.

Will our contact details or postal address change?

No.

Our church contact and postal details will remain unchanged.

You can continue to contact St Paul’s through our usual channels.

What about other activities that used to happen at 461 Chapel Road?

As the current site will no longer be available, activities that previously relied on the building will be reviewed and communicated separately where necessary.

Our focus during this period is to ensure that our core ministries and congregational life continue as smoothly as possible.

What happens on our final Sunday at 461 Chapel Road?

Sunday 8 November 2026 will be our farewell Sunday at the current site.

It will be an opportunity for us to give thanks for the many years God has given us at 461 Chapel Road, remember what God has done through St Paul’s, and look forward to what lies ahead.

More details about the farewell will be announced closer to the date.

Is this a permanent move?

No.

Our new location is temporary.

Once redevelopment is complete, St Paul’s will return to a new purpose-built home at 461 Chapel Road.

Why is social and affordable housing part of the redevelopment?

The redevelopment is located within the NSW Government's Bankstown Transport Oriented Development zone.

The project will provide 185 social and affordable housing units, with 100% of the housing yield dedicated to social and affordable housing.

The housing is intended to support groups including essential workers, seniors and women over 55.

The redevelopment allows the site to contribute to the growing needs of the Bankstown community while also providing a sustainable future for St Paul’s.

Is the redevelopment funded by the government?

The project has been partly funded through the Federal Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund.

It is also located within the NSW Government’s Bankstown Transport Oriented Development zone.

When will the redevelopment be finished?

The current expectation is approximately 2.5 years, although redevelopment timelines can change as the project progresses.

We will continue to provide updates as major milestones are reached.

Will I still be able to find St Paul’s online?

Yes.

Our website, social media channels and other contact details will continue to operate as usual.

We will also make sure our online information clearly reflects our temporary meeting location so that visitors can easily find us.
